Cu Chi Tunnel Speedboat Trip

An unforgettable experience

The Cu Chi Tunnels are a vast network of connecting tunnels in the Cu Chi District of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam. These tunnels were used by Viet Cong soldiers as hiding places during fighting, but also served as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapons storage facilities, and living quarters for numerous Vietnamese fighters. The tunnels were vital to Vietnamese resistance to American forces and helped counter the growing American military presence.

As I walked through the narrow tunnels, I couldn't help but imagine what life must have been like for the soldiers living there. It is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Vietnamese that they were able to endure such conditions and continue their fight.

Cu Chi Tunnel Speedboat Trip

Itinerary

At the crack of dawn (7:30am to be exact), you will be picked up from your hotel lobby and taken by car or minivan to the central pier. From there you will board a speedboat and make your way to the Cu-Chi-Tunneln (Ben Dinh). As you speed along the waterway, you can catch a glimpse of Vietnam's diverse landscape - from towering skyscrapers and bustling commercial centers to peaceful riverside countryside.

On board you can have a light breakfast and snack on fresh tropical fruits while sipping mineral water. Enjoy the beauty of your natural surroundings and watch the tranquil waterway come to life with boats of all shapes and sizes, traditional village houses and lush vegetation. Your guide will regale you with fascinating information about the daily life of the riverside locals and the natural environment.

At 9:15 am, after a one hour and fifteen minute speedboat ride, you will arrive at the Cu Chi Tunnels area. During a leisurely walk through the jungle you can see bomb craters, countless traps, secret entrances, combat bunkers, ventilation systems and constructed living areas.

The adventurous have the opportunity to fire an AK47, M16 or M60 with real bullets at the shooting range (bullets at own expense). You can also see how rice wine and rice paper (the skin for spring rolls) are made.

The most exciting part of this Cu Chi Tunnel speedboat excursion is trying to move through a real underground tunnel. This is a unique experience that will make you feel like a real Vietnamese fighter. But if tight spaces are not your thing or you have concerns, you can skip it. It is completely optional and is only a small part of the tour.

Afterwards, you can taste steamed tapioca roots, which were a staple food in Cu Chi during the war.

At 11:15 am it's time to say goodbye to the Cu Chi Tunnels and board again a speedboat that will take you to a riverside restaurant in a picturesque village. There you will enjoy a traditional Vietnamese lunch.
