A unique experience
Ninh Binh is an enchanted place that locals refer to as "Ha Long Bay on land", thanks to its magical riverscape with rugged limestone mountains rising out of the rice paddies. The best way to explore this UNESCO-protected site is to paddle along its shimmering rivers and climb its fabled peaks. On this 2-day Ninh Binh excursion, you will visit Trang An, Hoa Luthe Mua Cave, the Van Long Nature Reserve and the Bai Dinh temple complex, the largest Buddhist temple complex in the country.
The weather in Ninh Binh is ideal from March to May and from September to November. For the best views, we recommend a visit during the harvest season in October.

Itinerary
After breakfast (pick-up time can be customised), we will drive you to the Trang An Grottoes, an extraordinary natural beauty with majestic limestone mountains rising from the rice fields. Deep in the interconnected chains of towering mountains are unspoilt places with mystical valleys, numerous freshwater ponds and forests.
Climb aboard a traditional sampan that will gently row you along the marvellous river through numerous caves: The 320 metre long Hang Toi (Dack) Cave, the 90 metre long Sang (Light) Cave and the 250 metre long Hang Nau Ruou Cave. Each passage holds new surprises and secrets hidden in secluded, quiet valleys, transporting you to another world and time. The fauna and flora is abundant and mountain goats leaping from cliff to cliff are frequently seen.
Welcome to a wonderful afternoon tour in Hoa Lu, the old capital of Vietnam. We start our journey with a leisurely bike ride towards Hoa Lu, where the history of Vietnam comes alive.
In 968, Dinh Bo Linh was crowned king and made Hoa Lu the capital for the next 41 years (968 - 1009). Under the Dinh dynasty, King Dinh Tien Hoang ruled the land of Dai Co Viet for 12 years before it became the capital for another 29 years under King Le Dai Hanh during the Le dynasty. In 1010, King Ly Thai To moved the capital from Hoa Lu to Thang Long, now Hanoi, and Hoa Lu became the old citadel. Today there are two temples in Hoa Lu, which were built on the site of the old royal palace. One is dedicated to King Dinh Tien Hoang and the other to King Le Dai Hanh. Visiting these temples offers you the opportunity to learn more about the feudal dynasties and historical periods of Vietnamese history.
You will be fascinated by the historical significance of this site and the architectural beauty of the temples. Let our experienced guide take you through the history and immerse you in Vietnam's past.
Another must-visit destination is Bai Dinh Pagoda, a famous spiritual landscape complex in the Bai Dinh - Trang An ecotourism area with more than 1000 years of history linked to the land of many feudal dynasties from the Dinh to the early Le to the Ly. The complex is located to the west of the ancient capital Hoa Lu, in Gia Sinh commune, Ninh Binh province, about 95 kilometres from Hanoi. It covers a total area of 539 hectares, on which both the old and new Bai Dinh pagodas are located.
The Bai Dinh Pagoda is considered the largest complex of Buddhist pagodas in Vietnam and is also known in many other countries in Southeast Asia and Asia.
First thing this morning we visit the Van Long Nature Reserve. Once we arrive, we board a bamboo rowing boat and row along the beautiful wetlands. We enjoy the spectacular scenery surrounded by rice fields, lotus ponds and towering limestone mountains.
There are also thousands of caves in the Van Long region and with an area of up to 3500 hectares, Van Long combines the features of Halong Bay on land that will amaze you.
Afterwards, a visit to the Mua Cave in Ninh Binh is on the programme. A truly unforgettable experience. The cave is known for its natural beauty and is often referred to as the "Great Wall of Vietnam". After exploring the cave, we make our way to the Bich Dong Pagoda. This historical and cultural site is unique for its perfect combination of ancient pagodas with cross-covered roofs, natural caves and majestic mountains.
The Bich Dong Pagoda consists of three separate layers: Ha Pagoda (lower pagoda), Trung Pagoda (middle pagoda) and Thuong Pagoda (upper pagoda). To reach them, you have to climb some steep stairs. The view from the top is breathtaking and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.
Overall, a visit to Mua Cave and Bich Dong Pagoda is an unforgettable experience not to be missed when in Ninh Binh. The natural beauty and rich history of these places will delight any visitor.
