Exploring Hanoi: between tradition and modernity

After check-in, the rest of the day is yours to explore the fascinating capital of Vietnam on your own. Hanoi impresses with a unique mix of lakes, shady boulevards and public parks. The “Lake of the Returned Sword” (Hoan Kiem Lake) is a magical place, surrounded by magnificent trees, old colonial buildings and the charming alleyways of the Old Quarter. This is where tradition and modernity meet, and the lake is a popular meeting place for locals of all ages.

Hanoi CityOur first stop is Long Bien Bridge on the Red River, followed by Hang Ngang-Hang Dao Street market and the old quarter of Hanoi. Our tour will take you through the old quarter of Hanoi on foot and in your private vehicle, accompanied by a local guide who will also introduce you to Vietnamese cuisine if you wish.

You will be taken off the beaten track in the French Quarter to night markets and the famous Ta Hien Beer Street in the capital. Here you will have the opportunity to try authentic dishes and get to know Vietnamese cuisine.

Of course, the most famous sights should not be missed, such as Hoan Kiem Lake, the Red Bridge, the Temple of Literature, the Tran Quoc Pagoda, the one-pillar pagoda Chua Mot cot and the Jade Mountain Temple (Ngoc Son) with its striking dragon heads.

Saigon Cathedral

Experience Saigon, the "Pearl of the Orient", in all its splendour together with our friendly guides, who have called the city home for many years. Be enchanted by the fascinating French-colonial architecture and immerse yourself in traditional pharmacies and colourful markets. In the morning, we stroll through the centre of Saigon, which was shaped by the French colonial era, visit the Notre Dame Cathedral, the main post office, the old town hall and admire the opera house.

But even in the centre, the original Vietnam remains alive - be it in Le Cong Kieu Street with its numerous antique and junk dealers, in the countless narrow alleyways where most people live, or over a glass of freshly squeezed sugar cane juice at a "wet market".

After a detour to the Bitexco Tower (exterior tour), the Nguyen Hue (pedestrian zone) and a visit to the Giac Lam Pagoda, we head to the Chinese-influenced "Cho Lon" district. Our journey takes us through the vibrant streets and alleyways of Chinatown to the neighbourhood's largest market, Cho Binh Tay. The variety of goods and their presentation offer a sensory experience of a special kind. We end our tour with a visit to the fascinating Mariamman Hindu Temple and a stop at the famous Ben Thanh Market. Buu Long pagoda HCMC

Today you will embark on a journey of discovery through "The unseen Saigon". Leave the bustling city centre, pass Saigon's newest landmark, the Landmark 81 skyscraper, and let everyday Vietnamese life pass you by. This tour takes you to the lesser-known sights of Saigon.

Our first stop is the Buu Long Pagoda, which offers a fantastic view and is only visited by a few. The beautiful garden gradually reveals the impressive pagoda, decorated with gold and the largest of its kind in Vietnam. A circular fountain and a small forest with a finely carved reclining Buddha in front of the pagoda create an idyllic atmosphere. From the top of the pagoda, you can enjoy a marvellous view of the Dong Nai River and the surrounding countryside.

The tour continues with a boat trip to visit the nearby Chùa Bà Châu temple. Immerse yourself in the colourful legends and stories of Vietnam.

In the afternoon, we stroll through the enchanting park to the Ao Dai Museum, where 500 long dresses from different eras are on display. These range from the first designs in the 17th century to the modern designs of today.

On the way back to the city centre, we visit the unique Tan Dinh Church, also known as the Church of the Sacred Heart. Built during the French colonial period, it is a mixture of neo-Romanesque, neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance architecture. Its pastel pink colouring gives it the nickname "the pink church". As the second largest church in Ho Chi Minh City, it provides a fantastic backdrop for impressive photos. Experience Saigon from its lesser-known but equally fascinating side.

Mekong Delta Orchid

Join us on a 2.5-hour drive to Cai Be to explore the breathtaking Mekong Delta with its green rice fields.

Your adventure begins with a visit to Jimmy Chocolatier, where you can sample handmade chocolate creations. Immerse yourself in the process of cocoa production, from harvesting to processing, and taste the authentic flavour of fresh cocoa made from high-quality local ingredients.

In Cai Be, board a boat and explore the majestic Mekong River. Experience the lively floating market of Cai Be, where locals sell their wares and a colourful hustle and bustle prevails.

The journey continues with a scenic sampan ride on a small canal, followed by an exploration of a traditional craft village. Enjoy a delicious meal at an authentic local restaurant on Tan Phong Island and admire the panoramic view of the Mekong River.

At around 18:00, we will take you to your hotel/homestay in Can Tho, where you can reflect on the impressions of the day. Floating Market Phong Dien

Early in the morning, as the sun touches the horizon, you are immersed in a lively scene that will stay with you forever. Colourful boats laden with fresh fruit, vegetables, handicrafts and delicacies move busily across the calm river. A hustle and bustle fills the air as the locals who live and work on the boats gather for a floating market.

Your boat glides back and forth between the stalls, the vendors sell their wares, and the sound of negotiations and the lapping of the water create an unforgettable atmosphere. The opportunity to sample fresh local specialities directly on the boats makes the experience even more authentic.

The lively atmosphere, the blaze of colour and the unique insight into the everyday life of the locals make the Cai Rang Floating Market an unforgettable spectacle that will stay with you for a long time.

At 10:00 a.m. you will return to your homestay/hotel in Can Tho or to the ferry to Cai Rang, from where you will head for Phu Quoc to spend a few more days on the beautiful beach.
