The turbulent history of Con Dao
Con Dao has a profound and contrasting past. Once discovered by European seafarers in the 17th century, the main island was later used as a prison camp by the French colonial power as well as American and South Vietnamese troops. Today, the preserved historical sites, including the infamous "tiger cages", serve as important memorials.
