Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about Ninh Binh

Which is better: the boat trip in Trang An or Tam Coc?

Both are spectacular boat trips through breathtaking karst landscapes. Trang An (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is more expansive, often a little more unspoilt and leads through longer water caves. Tam Coc, on the other hand, is famous for the rice fields directly on the river bank, which create a magical picture especially at harvest time. Our guides will be happy to advise you on the best choice for the day.

The months from March to May and September to November offer very pleasant temperatures and clear visibility. The absolute „golden season“ for photographers is from late May to mid-June, when the rice fields in Tam Coc are a brilliant yellow just before the harvest.

Yes, due to the short journey time of only about 2 hours, a day trip is easily and comfortably achievable. However, to experience the magical atmosphere of the limestone landscape in absolute silence early in the morning or at dusk, we recommend staying at least one night in a local boutique resort.

Absolutely. Geologically speaking, Ninh Binh and Halong are the exact same karst formation. The only difference: in Ninh Binh, the moss-covered, steep rock pinnacles do not rise out of the sea, but out of emerald-green rivers and vast rice fields.
