The forest offers an abundance of plant and animal species as well as historical sites. A canoe trip through the forest and walking along the trails will allow you to see the remains of Viet Cong bunkers. During the American War, the Viet Cong had a base here where high-ranking VC officers lived in underground bunkers.
Gao Giong Ecotourism Area
Gao Giong is an ecotourism area in Gao Giong commune, Cao Lanh district and is a typical area of the Mekong Delta ecosystem . Through the work of people, Gao Giong has become a protective forest - the green lung of Dong Thap Muoi region - and provides habitat for many species of birds, fish and plants . The area covers 1,670 hectares, including 250 hectares of virgin forest with streams, swamps, lotus flowers, reeds, water chestnuts and cajuput trees. There is also a bird park of over 36 hectares with a variety of species, including the rare Nhan Dien species listed in the Red Book . Visitors can visit the park here and watch the birds.

The right time to visit
The dry season in the Mekong Delta from October/November to April/May is the preferred travel time. But also during the rainy season from May to October the Mekong Delta can be visited well. The rain usually comes in short, heavy showers, mostly in the afternoon and is usually over after about an hour. Only on a few days a year it gets cooler than 20°C or it rains for a longer time at a stretch.
